Mobile Devices
We believe in giving you as many options as possible in selecting your
mobile device. Every company is different with different requirements, radio systems,
budgets, etc.
Public and Private Networks
Some mobile devices are designed for Private Mobile Radio operation, while
others are betters suited for public cellular networks. A Public system gives you
virtually nationwide coverage, but in return you have to pay an airtime fee. Operating
your own radio system may be more cost-effective, but you have to assume responsibility
for the radio system, which may detract from your core business of running a taxi
company.
Kenwood FleetSync™
Piccolo supports the Kenwood FleetSync™ protocol for mobile data communications
and GPS tracking. The mobile radio itself can be used as an inexpensive mobile data
device. Alternatively, you can add a Kenwood KDS-100 control head, or if you prefer,
a full Windows based mobile client.
Windows Mobile Clients
Mobile computers runnning the Windows operating system (WIN CE, WIN XP,
Pocket PC, WIN TABLET) give you the ultimate in local computer processing and peripheral
support. This class of mobile computers typically operate over public networks,
but can also be configured for private radio systems.
The screenshot example to the top shows a Windows Mobile Client integrated with
voice based navigational mapping software.
Pocket PC
The Pocket PC platform is surprisingly powerful at a very cost-effective
price point. New models include cellular phones with integrated GPS.
Magnetic card readers and mobile printers can be connected using Bluetooth communications.
Pocket PC even supports advanced voice based navigational software from companies
like iNav and TomTom, making this platform hard to beat in terms of 'bang for the
buck'.
